Iranian General: U.S. agreed to talks after realizing war was too costly

During a ceremony commemorating the Liberation of Khorramshahr on Saturday, Brigadier General Rasoul Sanaei-Rad, Political Deputy of the Political-Islamic Thoughts Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, underscored the significance of resistance in shaping Iran’s strategic position.

AhlulBayt News Agency: During a ceremony commemorating the Liberation of Khorramshahr on Saturday, Brigadier General Rasoul Sanaei-Rad, Political Deputy of the Political-Islamic Thoughts Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, underscored the significance of resistance in shaping Iran’s strategic position.

According to Mehr, he asserted that the United States agreed to negotiations only after realizing that military force against Iran was neither viable nor effective. Had American officials believed they could secure victory through military power, they would never have pursued diplomatic talks, the general emphasized.

Sanaei-Rad highlighted the pivotal role of Iran’s eight-year resistance during the imposed war, particularly the liberation of Khorramshahr, in demonstrating to the U.S. the high costs and risks associated with conflict. This realization, he noted, forced Washington to reconsider its approach toward Iran.

Drawing parallels between past and present, he stressed the necessity of standing firm against excessive American demands, just as Iran did during the Sacred Defense against Saddam’s Western-backed regime. Preserving the country’s nuclear achievements, he argued, is fundamental to safeguarding national dignity and future interests.

“Our independence was preserved through resistance during the imposed war, and today, our dignity and long-term interests depend on the same unwavering stance,” he concluded.
